During the last 18 months, the Phuket Animal Support Group has received assistance from WSPA (pronounced Wispa) The World Society for the Protection of Animals. Last year, PASG became a member society of WSPA, an international organisation working in 76 countries with a network of 400 member societies and a combined membership in excess of 10 million. WSPA has representation at United Nations (UN), Council of Europe and works in co-operation with the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the management and control of stray and unwanted animals.
we do not receive financial aid from WSPA, they have supported us with equipment,
guidance and more importantly, the public awareness that WSPA brings along with
their name. We also received a 10-day
visit from an English veterinary surgeon, Dr David Griffiths.
During his visit, with the aid of volunteers, Dr Griffiths sterilized 103
dogs and 53 cats at 10 different temples on the island.
We hope to have more vets from WSPA come to visit Phuket and operate on
the animals on a regular basis.
Education material is always important and WSPA has been able to guide us in helping educate the local people in caring for their animals, the importance of sterilizing and vaccinating against such killer diseases as rabies, parvovirus and distemper.
Once we have established our mobile clinic, we hope to have more vets come to visit Phuket and operate on the animals on a regular basis to help us make a difference.
